“The flag of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic is the symbol of our struggle. And each color has a meaning. The color black is the symbol of occupation, green is a symbol of hope, red is the symbol of the martyrs blood and white is a symbol of peace. Finally, there are the crescent moon and the stars, which are the symbols of our religion, Islam. Our flag flies today with great regret, with the black side up. What us Sahrawi hope is that one day it could fly upside down, with the green top. This is what keeps us here, in this desert."
